Prime Minister John Key is in the hot seat with a net worth of $3.4 billion after a $3 billion fund-raising event in Auckland last week.
Key is facing criticism from his critics for not having a bigger cushion for emergency spending.
Key’s office says he has set aside $600 million to fund emergency response, and he’s also committed to making a $300 million investment to improve roads and infrastructure.
Key says he won’t leave his office without a check, but it’s unclear if that amount will go to the Prime Minister.
Key has yet to say how much he’s already put aside.
