T-rex-inspired solar panels and a wind farm could be the first big investments made in a Tesla fund as the world’s first Tesla investor makes its big bet in the solar market.
The investment from T-Rek, which is backed by Elon Musk, is the first of its kind from a US investor.
It’s valued at $9bn and will be a major source of funding for Tesla, a leading electric vehicle maker.
Tesla has seen its shares drop in value over the past few months as investors have been looking for ways to shore up the company after a tumultuous year that saw a series of stock-market crashes and market turmoil.
T-rex funds can be risky investments, however, and have raised more than $13bn in the past decade, according to the fund’s website.
Elon Musk is also a billionaire, with $50bn to his name.
The company is currently seeking to raise capital for its first vehicle, the Model 3, which would compete with rival Tesla.
Its latest financial results showed it raised $7.5bn in funding last year, up from $4.5 billion in 2014.
In addition to a big chunk of the funds raised last year came from venture capital funds.
The funds are currently raising $1bn for a project to build a battery factory and power the next generation of Tesla cars, the Tesla Model 3.
