The number of hedge funds in the world is growing by the day, and according to Bloomberg, there are more than $2 billion of them.
The top three hedge funds by market cap are all in the $2.5 trillion category, and they account for more than 60% of the global market.
They’re also all growing fast, with funds in many of the world’s top countries growing by as much as 30% a year.
Bloomberg cites an analysis by Bloomberg Intelligence that tracks funds by their market capitalization and compares it to the size of the U.S. economy.
That’s a big deal for hedge funds.
In fact, hedge funds’ market cap grew by an average of $1,200 in the last quarter of 2019, up from an average annual gain of $965.
Bloomberg Intelligence points out that hedge funds are now worth about $20 trillion.
